On Top of the River

Hoosic River, Williamstown, MA. 8x10 inches, oil on linen panel.  Trees leaning over the river are on top of the river in a painting so they tend to blend together.  I did this plein air painting this afternoon.

Unkempt Tree

Wild Tree in Winter, Williamstown, MA. 6x8 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.  On Luce Road next to the old milk shed, there's an unkempt tree, which looks imposing with snow around it and the sun upon it.

The Sun Came Out

Trees at Field Farm, Williamstown, MA. 9x12 inches, vine charcoal and charcoal pencil on paper. I went for a walk on the first day of the New Year with my sketchpad.  The sun came out to warm me up when I stopped to draw. 

Still Full of Snow

Yesterday afternoon, I went walking in the woods at Hopkins Forest in Williamstown, MA. They're still full of snow.  And where there wasn't any snow, it was all mud.  But I'll take it.  It was quiet.  8x10 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.

Field Farm Fields

When I started this painting there wasn't any snow on the ground except for the Mount Greylock range, but that has since changed.  The painting depicts a pine in the center of the Field Farm fields in Williamstown, MA.  18x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.

Negative Spaces on a Wonderful Day

The afternoon was cold, raw, and overcast, but I still went on a walk at Field Farm with my sketchpad intending to draw something.  I stopped at this mass of tree trunks framing more tree trunks.  Drawing furiously, I focused on the negative spaces keeping with the mood.  When done, I kept walking noting that it was a wonderful day. 9x12 inches, pencil on paper.

The Twin Trees

This afternoon I went for a quick walk at Field Farm in Williamstown, MA with the intention of making a drawing.  I ended up at the twin trees on the North Trail. 9x12 inches, pencil on paper.
