In the warm October light

Painting in the mid-afternoon at a pond in the warm October sunlight is something you wish would never end but it's built-in that it will end.  I suppose that's one reason why I painted it.  9x12 inches, oil on linen.

Fewer Leaves, Same Bramble Branch

After the clouds cleared up today, I went back to the same spot as last week on Sheep Hill in Williamstown, MA.  I even found the same prickly bramble branch that bothered me then at the edge of the path.  The main difference was fewer leaves on the trees. 8x16 inches, oil on linen canvas.

Yesterday I Went Back

Straight Into The Hopper

A few years I saw that the late day sun in November would light up the leafless trees in front of The Hopper, while casting it into deep shadows.  I made a few pastel paintings then.  This time I wanted to make an oil painting, and the conditions were right last week.  The view is from the hayfield at the end of Hopper Road, looking straight into The Hopper in Williamstown, MA.  18x24 inches, oil on canvas.

Changing Shadows

The farmhouse on Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA which I've painted at least a couple dozen times from much higher up at the top of the road looking across the valley towards Mount Greylock and The Hopper.  I love its changing shadows as the sun moves across the sky.  9x12 inches, oil on panel.
