Sheep Hill Summer View

Sheep Hill View, Williamstown, MA. 18x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.  Too hot to paint outside so I painted a large studio version of the view.

A Rare Phenomenon

Hoosic River, Williamstown, MA. 12x16 inches, oil on canvas panel.  From my wanderings along the edges of the Hoosic, my guess is that this overhanging willow is a rare phenomenon.

Further Along

Pottery Studio Sink, Pownal, VT. 16x12 inches, oil on linen canvas.  This one I decided to push further along, adding more paint, more definition and more contrast.

So Much To See

Pottery Studio, Pownal, VT. 12x12 inches, oil on linen panel.  Quite often when there's so much to see, it's difficult to see anything.

Pottery Studio, Pownal, VT.  14x11 inches, oil on canvas panel. With this view of the sink, I was able to include some patterning, which provides energy.

A Life of Their Own

The Pottery Studio Sink, Pownal, VT.  16x12 inches, oil on linen canvas.  A more studied view. I've noticed over a short time that many of the things, sponges, containers, the faucet, change location or position, as if they had a life of their own.

Studio Interior

Pottery Studio Interior, Pownal, VT.  12x12 inches, oil on linen panel.  An art studio is an intriguing place: a refuge for quiet and creativity, a chamber for noise and activity, a room to reexamine completed work and ponder new directions, and a space to reconnect to traditions and recognize that one is part of something larger than oneself (this is not an exhaustive list).

Art and Nature

Entrance to the Pottery Studio, Pownal, VT.  16x20 inches, oil on linen canvas.  When I painted a plein air view of the studio entrance a month ago, I felt that the boundaries of the studio and nature were overlapping.  This is a studio painting with the same theme.

View from the Sixth Floor

View from the Sixth Floor, Springfield, MA.  12x16 inches, oil on canvas panel.  A slow sketch, done in the studio, of a view that I kept looking at in the last couple weeks.
