A Brook Runs Through It
Edge of the Pasture, Williamstown, MA. 9x12 inches, oil on canvas panel. The weather was nice, so I went to the edge of the pasture, where a brook runs through it, in the late afternoon, to paint.

Where Pasture and Hayfield Meet
The Edge of a Pasture, Williamstown, MA. 12x9 inches, oil on canvas panel. Today I painted where a fence divides a hayfield from a pasture. The pasture has a stream running through it.

Overgrown Pasture
Overgrown Pasture. 12x12 inches, oil on linen panel. Facing the Taconic Mountains, I valiantly tried to paint the lush, old pasture off of Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA.

A Cloudy Cow Pasture
This one of a cow pasture in Williamstown, MA I painted a couple weeks ago when it was cloudy and threatening to rain. Little has changed since then in terms of the weather. 9x12 inches, oil on canvas panel.

A Few Steps
Another spot a few steps from where I painted the shed, looking north on Luce Road in Williamstown, MA. 12x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

A Demo In The Mud
This is the painting I did while standing in the mud, with my boots on, with a tarp to hold my gear dry, and with the cows at my back (on the other side of the fence) between me and the sun. I could see their moving shadows from the corners of my eyes. When they walked around, they made plopping, sucking sounds in the mud. I found myself talking to them as I painted. You could call it a demo. 8x10 inches, oil on panel.

What Ever Else
Yesterday I went out briefly to a favorite spot to paint. A corn field, a mountain, a pasture fence, a dirt road, what ever else does one need? Maybe that's why I like to paint boats and water. There aren't any where I live. 9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

A Busy Remote Spot
It's a small painting done in a remote spot, but while there I met two hikers, and then the farmer came to rescue the cow and her calf, and then the hikers came back, so I told them what they had missed. 8x10 inches, oil on linen panel.

By Light And Geometry
This spot, the corner of a pasture on Luce Road in Williamstown, MA, I pass by frequently, and sometimes something will be different enough to startle my awareness. It's often caused by light and geometry. 8x10 inches, oil on panel.

Remnants and Vestiges
A perimeter tree at Field Farm in Williamstown, MA. with vestiges of the pasture, rotting posts and barbed wire ingrown into tree trunks. Remnants of ancient farming can be found everywhere in the woods and at edges of fields. 8x10 inches, oil on panel.

Patterns
A painting of patterns done while I was set up on the dirt road between the cornfield and the pasture facing in the opposite direction of the previously posted painting. 9x12 inches, oil on panel.

Like This
When the weather is like this, I am grateful there are places like this, where I can setup my easel and paint. 9x12 inches, oil on panel.

Going To Seed
For most of the afternoon the sun did not shine, but it was pleasant painting in this meadow, which also functions as a pasture when there are cows. Now everything is growing and going to seed. The higher field has been mowed but not this one.

Looking Up
So today I started to paint in a new spot for me, though it's just a bit lower down the road from where I've been painting this summer. Now I'm looking up instead of looking down. 9x12 inches, oil on panel.

Behemoths
To look towards the sun, I went up higher in the pasture partly off of the dirt road. Halfway through the painting, I saw something in the corner of my eye. In a few seconds, they came out of the woods. I became surrounded by huge, fly-covered behemoths, loudly chomping the vegetation around me. Just as suddenly they all left going down the hill toward the barn. 9x12 inches, oil on panel.

Adventures On The Dirt Road
On the dirt road high up. When making this one under the umbrella, I was visited by the farmer's wife, who saw its reflection from below and thought it was a car. She drove up in an ATV to investigate, and when she saw me, she said something like, "Oh, it's you." 9x12 inches, oil on panel.
