Farther Back and Higher Up

This Saturday I visited the Manchester Vermont backyard while the sky was full of dramatic clouds, slightly overlapping the mountain edges, and putting the whole range in shadow.  The view is farther back than the previous paintings.  This painting is a 14x18 oil on canvas.

Backyard View in Vermont

I spent the first part of the day gallery sitting in Manchester, VT, but in the afternoon I went to a familiar location nearby, the backyard of friends, to paint.  This is actually a view from their backyard bench.  The mountain that rises on the right is Mount Equinox.

In Vermont

Today I visited Manchester, Vermont, and painted at the home of friends, in their backyard, which has this tremendous view.  It was hot, but my trusty umbrella helped, and I didn't linger, though it took me a while to figure out exactly what I was going to do.  If a neighbor had been looking on, they would have seen me move my easel about five times before I settled in.  Hopefully you get a sense of the heat and glare.  I was on top of a rise looking down on a field with a few trees.  The painting is an 11x14 oil on panel.

Opposite Direction

Main Street in Manchester, Vermont looking north in the opposite direction of the painting posted a couple days ago.  This one has a counter-balanced composition with repeating triangles.  Just chance.  18x24 oil.

Main Street Manchester

Finally, this 18x24 oil is a view of Main Street, Manchester, Vermont, near where "Up for Breakfast" is located.  It's not Brooklyn, but still wonderfully 'urban'.  Also I was struck by how the shadow on the roof was a reverse of the mountain shape in the background.  But that's just the beginning...
