Sometimes It Rains

After Forty Five Minutes

My forecaster said it wasn't going to rain.  After all, she said the Red Sox would win on Sunday.  But this is as far as I got this afternoon after 45 minutes of painting.  Behind my right shoulder the sky was darkening, and the thunder was getting closer and closer.   I packed up and fled.  And it poured within minutes, and it's still raining as I post.  8x16 inches, oil on linen panel.

To end up at this location to make this painting, I first wandered over a couple of miles of path at Field Farm, trying to find a dry spot.  We've had so much rain, that I didn't find one, but I got a lot of exercise.  At this point, I was close enough to my car, so I retrieved a plastic tarp to keep my backpack from getting all wet when I put it on the ground.  And it rained again just as I was finishing up.  9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

It Must Be True!

Late this afternoon I went out to paint at the farm at the end of Hopper Road in Williamstown, MA.  The farmer arrived shortly thereafter to mow another hay field.  He said to me that he can make it rain by just going out to mow, even though the weather forecast said there was a 30% chance for rain later today.  I'm writing and posting now when it's pouring rain outside.  Alas, it must be true!  And it will take him longer to get the hay dried and into the barn.  This is a view down Hopper Road facing west from the front of the barn.  8x10 oil on panel.

Raining and Strolling

A rainy evening in Bordeaux, this time as a 12x12 oil on canvas for a change of shape.  I also used predominantly three colors: Prussian blue, raw umber, and Naples yellow, plus titanium white.  Everyone is looking for some place to eat, or strolling after eating.
