Atlantic Avenue Shuttle Bridge

This painting, started three weeks ago, has been noisily demanding attention until yesterday when I completed it.  It depicts a view of the Shuttle bridge at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Franklin Avenue in Brooklyn.  12x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.

A Contre-Jour In Brooklyn

A near contre-jour small Brooklyn painting where the background and mid-ground objects merge together.  This is a view of Atlantic Avenue, looking towards Franklin Avenue.  I love doing small Brooklyn paintings because I can (and must) simplify a large amount of visual complexity. 6x8 oil on panel.

So Much Geometry

A Favorite Street in Brooklyn

Atlantic Avenue is one of my favorite streets in Brooklyn.  This view shows the Shuttle bridge near Franklin Avenue.  I used only three colors: ultramarine blue, raw umber, and yellow ochre for this one.  12x16 oil on panel.

Under the Bridge

Both Sides

A couple days ago I was in Brooklyn, but the sun made a half-hearted appearance.  This view I found on Atlantic Avenue approaching Franklin Avenue.  I liked the sky showing up on both sides of the high wall of a car repair place.  6x8 oil on panel.

Proverbial Sneakers

Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn offers a wide expanse at the corner of Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn.  The arm holding the traffic light even had the proverbial pair of sneakers hanging on the support cable when I was there.  How does anyone ever do that?  6x8 oil on panel.

Even A Small Painting

Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn is a fascinating street: not too many pedestrians, except those who cross it at intersections, and lotsa cars, moving quickly.  I always get the impression that the drivers hate to stop at the red lights.  The broad streets in Brooklyn always offer plenty of sky to fill even a small painting.  6x8 oil on panel.
