Field and Clouds

A Passageway

This painting depicts a passageway between one large field and another through a thick row of trees in Williamstown, MA.  I'm still celebrating the summer season, which isn't here yet. This doesn't mean that I'll be painting winter paintings in the summer.  18x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.

Undulations

On a frigid day, here's the view of Mount Greylock and the Hopper from Oblong Road near Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA.  The snow field has its undulations just like the distant mountains.   12x24 inches, oil on linen panel.

Imperfection

In his journal on June 29, 1857, Eugene Delacroix copied this maxim from La Rochefoucauld: "There are beautiful things which have more brilliance when they remain imperfect than when they are too perfect." Across Fields And Hills

From a mowed path at Field Farm, I looked across fields and hills towards The Hopper and Mount Greylock.  12x16 inches, oil on linen panel.  

A Hint Of The Hopper

A few days ago I painted in a mowed hay field looking towards the Hopper, which is partially hidden.  I chose this particular spot because... of the shade, not necessarily for the great composition, but that seemed to work out as well: the hint of the Hopper, also with an opening to another hayfield way in the back, a simple composition with some complexity. 9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

Wild-Looking

When I saw this wild-looking landscape the other day, it reminded me of a Jacob van Ruisdael painting.  I had to paint it. 8x10 inches, oil on panel.
