Patterning

A Different Approach

A Life of Their Own

Studio Sink

More Floor

Space Into Space

Pottery Studio Interior.  12x9 inches, oil on linen panel.  I'm still trying to settle on the right panel size for interior paintings.  Most that I see are vertical or squarish.  It's complicated making an interior space fit comfortably into a panel space.

Studio Interior

Pottery Studio Interior, Pownal, VT.  12x12 inches, oil on linen panel.  An art studio is an intriguing place: a refuge for quiet and creativity, a chamber for noise and activity, a room to reexamine completed work and ponder new directions, and a space to reconnect to traditions and recognize that one is part of something larger than oneself (this is not an exhaustive list).

Inspiring Interior Place

This morning I went to the studio to make this drawing.  This afternoon I did the gouache painting based upon the drawing.  The studio has always been an inspiring interior place.  9x12 inches, charcoal on paper. 6x8 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.

Formula For Drawing

Who says you can't draw by using a formula?  Mine consists of six easy steps anyone can do: 1. Have pencil and sketchpad. 2. If indoors, sit in random chair. 3. Make sure pencil is sharp.  4. If not, sharpen pencil. 5. Look up.  6. Start to draw what you see.  Repeat steps 3 and 4 as required.  9x12 inches, pencil on paper.
