Loriann, Thanks. Actually seeing your preparatory sketches led me to try being more deliberate. I have another pastel made today, not yet posted, which has benefited from a b&w drawing and a color sketch beforehand. I like that word, beforehand, in terms of creating pastels. I will have to see what the OED says about its origin.
