The Big Red Barn

The Red Barn, Williamstown, MA. 9x12 inches, oil on canvas panel.  A partial view of a big red barn. That's Mt. Greylock in the background on the right.  I blocked it in on site but had to finish it in the studio.

Still Life Drawing

Still Life. 9x12 inches, pencil on paper.  I prefer still lifes like this one, where everything is where I found it, nothing arranged.  I'm tempted to call this an insomnia drawing since I did it in the wee hours of the morning.

Road Squiggles

Pattison Road, North Adams, MA.  6x8 inches, gouache and watercolor on watercolor paper.  This is near where Luce Road in Williamstown changes to Pattison Road in North Adams. The tar squiggles preserve the cracks and reflect the sky.

A Blue Sea

The Mediterranean Sea at Cap Ferrat.  12x16 inches, oil on canvas panel.  I've always liked the words of Cezanne to Pissarro about painting the sea at L'Estaque: "red roofs against a blue sea," signifying the simplicity required for painting in the brilliant light of the south of France.
