Churning A Lot

The sun has not been shining much lately, but the mud has been churning a lot on Oblong Road at Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA.  12x16 inches, oil on linen panel.

Stratton Blair

At the top of Stratton Road where it meets Blair Road in Williamstown, MA.  The tree is now gone, but I think the painting needs it to be there. 12x16 inches, oil on canvas panel.

Mumble Scumble

On a snowy white-out day, here's a near monochromatic painting that looks better from across the room than close up, where it looks like the mumble-scumble scraping that it is.  Sheep Hill view of the Greylock range.  12x16 inches, oil on canvas panel.

Field Farm Fields

When I started this painting there wasn't any snow on the ground except for the Mount Greylock range, but that has since changed.  The painting depicts a pine in the center of the Field Farm fields in Williamstown, MA.  18x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.

Not Much Happening

Over the years I've painted many street intersections in Brooklyn.  Here's a country road intersection, that of Oblong and Sloan Roads in Williamstown, MA.  As you can see, not much happening.  12x16 inches, oil on panel.

Foreground Background

Since I'm doing paintings of old farmhouses in winter, here's one more, just completed, to be seen on Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA.  I'm fond of this view because of the echoes between the Hopper valley in the distance and the gully besides the road, and the rising Mount Greylock with the high roof peak of the farmhouse. 18x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.

Winter Farmhouse

Here's another larger painting that I've been working on, just completed.  The old farmhouse is comfortably settled in, or slightly dwarfed by, its surroundings.  18x24 inches, oil on linen canvas.

A Sudden View

A recent view of Williamstown, MA from the top of Stratton Road.  It's actually a "sudden" view with the sun making a momentary appearance to highlight the mud conditions of this part of Stratton Road, as well as the steeple in the distance. 16x20 inches, oil on linen panel.

Made In Trenton 17

If this painting, which hangs in my studio, wasn't signed on the back, I wouldn't know when I did it.  It's dated 1982, titled "Made in Trenton 17", from a large series of paintings, most of which no longer exist.  25x29 inches, oil on canvas.

Obsessive Probing

Sorry to be obsessive about these interior views. They are studies in composition.  I'm just probing.  8x6 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.

Inspiring Interior Place

This morning I went to the studio to make this drawing.  This afternoon I did the gouache painting based upon the drawing.  The studio has always been an inspiring interior place.  9x12 inches, charcoal on paper. 6x8 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.
