A Theory of Painting
Another Caspian Lake after the rain stopped. I thought I would write a theory of painting from this deceptively simple composition, but my mind refused to cooperate fully. 6x8 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.

The Second Version
Another quick visit to beautiful Caspian Lake in Greensboro, Vermont: this time battling the changing weather. I learned that if it rains on my gouache painting, I get a spotted gouache painting. This is the second version on top of the spotted version. 6x8 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.

When the tractor, pulling a baler and a hay wagon, came around the corner at Field Farm, I had to move quickly to get out of the way. 10x10 inches, oil on linen panel.

Something To Paint
Because of the warm weather, I keep showing up to paint on the west North Trail at Field Farm in Williamstown, MA, where it's so much cooler in the shade. The grasses bordering the path are almost over my head. Whichever way you turn, there's something to paint. 10x10 inches, oil on linen panel.

Someone's Painting
After painting at the top of Mount Greylock yesterday, I stopped briefly on my way down to paint another one at the pond. I heard a lone hiker (I think he was hooked up to a phone, walking and talking) say, "Someone's painting." 9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

Deep Shade and a Light Breeze
On a hot afternoon one usually can find deep shade and a light breeze on the North Trail at Field Farm in Williamstown, MA. I painted this line of trees the other day from the other side facing north. Here is a view of them from further down the path facing south from yesterday. 9x12 inches, oil on Guerrilla Painter carton board.

Majestical, Disorienting
The view east from the top of Mount Greylock towards Adams, MA. While I paint, I overhear people. What they say most often is "What town is that?" The top is majestical but can be disorienting. 12x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

Excellence in Any Medium
It's always great to get into a juried show. It's fabulous to win an award. My painting of the Monhegan fish shack in the "Exhibit New England 2022," at the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, MA, won the Brookline Bank Award for Excellence in Any Medium. Needless to say, I am grateful, especially since there are a ton of wonderful works in the show.

Under The Trees
So, I tried something different, peering from a large hayfield into another through a stand of trees separating the two fields: a sous-bois painting, which literally means "under the trees," except I was mainly looking through the trees. Actually, I was looking for a reason to include other colors besides greens, as in tree trunks. Field Farm, Williamstown, MA. 6x8 inches, gouache on mixed media paper.
