A Natural Compositiion

The Green River at Mount Hope Park in Williamstown, MA.  When you look, you discover that the real world always offers a natural composition.  9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

The Unsunny Side

The Green River at Mount Hope Park in Williamstown, MA.  One side of the bridge is sunny and inviting to bathers; the other side is not.  9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

Past And Present

Large rocks reveal their molten, liquid past in their form, so to see water flowing between rocks makes for an interesting contrast, not only between hard and soft, but past and present.  This plein air painting depicts the Green River at Mount Hope Park in Williamstown, MA.  8x10 inches, oil on linen panel.

On The Other Side

A second painting done on the opposite side of the pond.  I took advantage of the painting's ground for the near right tree trunks, and the pond reflects a distant tree on the other side, making for an interesting contrast.  10x10 inches, oil on linen panel.

Hard To Reach

The Green River is quite narrow at this location, so runs fast.  I was told it's the site of a former inappropriately-placed beaver dam that was destroyed with heavy machinery.  I'm not sure how the machine reached it.  I could hardly get there on my feet.  8x10 inches, oil on linen panel.

Springtime Truck

This truck has been sitting in the cow yard next to the barn at the end of Hopper Road in Williamstown, MA. since the early 1990's (I'm told).  The location is also a major trailhead, so over a generation many people have seen it. 9x12 inches, oil on linen panel.

Just Paint

A little painting that I did in a field off of Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA last week while looking through a dense row of trees separating my field from another.  The trees become just paint.  6x8 inches, oil on multimedia board.

Irresistible Rhythm

The tree trunks spanned the pond; only those on either side of my sight were pointing up, while all the rest were reflections.  Their rhythm across the water was irresistible. 9x12 inches, oil on panel, charcoal on paper.

The Sun Shone On The Tree

In the distant water to my left sat two large beaver lodges, closer by a slowly passing snake was cutting the surface, and everywhere the birds were singing.  The sun shone on the tree.  Lucky for me I had my painting gear. 9x12 inches, oil on panel, charcoal on paper.

Awe-Inspiring

A favorite view on Sloan Road in Williamstown, MA yesterday afternoon.  I set up in the gully that edges the road.  The sun slowly faded away but looking at the Hopper in the distance is always awe-inspiring.  Mount Greylock is on the far right.  9x12 inches, oil on panel, charcoal on paper.

An Old Victorian

An old Victorian.  I guess they're all old. This one is also sad.  In North Adams, MA. 9x12 inches, oil on panel.
